Hand Building workshop with Jill Symes

Jill Symes is a Melbourne-based ceramic artist producing a continuously developing body of ceramic vessels and sculptures which demonstrate developed handbuilding skills and a mature understanding of the exciting possibilities of earthenware clays and glazing techniques.

This 4 week workshop will be held on Saturday mornings 10am-1pm.

Saturday 14 March, 21 March, 28 March, 4 April

During each 3 hour class you will explore various hand-building techniques. The focus will be on producing table & garden ware objects. Students will learn the fundamental techniques of hand building such as pinching, coiling & slab construction. Then you will explore underglazes application & glazing.

What to bring?

Bring an old towel and wear clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. An apron or old shirt is perfect. Please also wear enclosed shoes. A pencil & journal for drawing.

Please note that our courses are designed for adults and we take students 18+ years old. Students 15 – 17 years old are welcome to enrol in the class if they are accompanied by an enrolled adult.
